Celebrating Another Birthday & Your Chance To Win

So you may have read yesterday that I'm pledging to achieve some milestones before I hit 34. That might have something to do with the fact that I turned 33 yesterday.

Now, I'm feeling some serious love from you all so I've already launched a giveaway on facebook to win a mahoosive 850g bar of Dairy Milk. If you haven't entered it yet, I suggest you toddle on over by clicking here or searching Coming from Carson's Mummy on facebook. All you need to do is tell me who you'd share it with... if anyone, of course ha!

That giveaway is live until Tuesday so be quick, but, I wanted to hold a little competition for those not on facebook as well so that maybe you'll celebrate with me regardless. And what better way to do that than with prosecco and chocolates?
Oh yes!

I've chosen this little beauty of a hamper as the prize, all it needs now is a couple of entrants and we have a good old giveaway on our hands. Should the product be unavailable at the time of drawing a winner, You'll get something of a similar nature of equal or higher value, this means that the prize on offer is worth a minimum of £39 (correct at time of publishing)... you lucky devils you! Please note that this is only open to UK residents and you must be 18 years or over.

You know what to do...

Avoid a Fat-berg Crisis and WIN!

When I was young, I thought my Dad was right weird, making bizarre lard moulds out of 4-pint bottles of milk. Let me explain, frying sausages, mince or a making a good old roast dinner produce a whole lot of juices - most of which is fat. Easy to pour down the sink you might think, but, what happens to them juices when they cool down? They solidify, causing havoc on your drain systems. Did you know that it costs around £20million to fix blocked pipes in the North West alone with this being one of the main causes?

The average roast dinner contains around 48g* of fat!

Dad's no longer as weird as I thought because guess who had to spend a small fortune on Mr Muscle and plumbers before Christmas? Yup, that'll be moi. I failed to pour leftover cooking fats into an open topped milk bottle! I'll be 32 years of age next month and I'm still uncovering proof to back up the fact that parent's are always right!

United Utilities want to help people learn how they can keep their own drains healthy, as many people don’t know that water companies aren’t responsible for fixing blockages on domestic properties. Insurance companies often won’t pay out if the problem was caused by fats, oils and grease. Can you imagine if Mr Muscle and a whole lotta elbow grease (excuse the pun!) hadn't have worked for my drains? Talk about an expensive Christmas.

Because of this, United Utilities have a dedicated area on their website just for this very issue, where you can find top tips like these, for keeping your drains in tip top condition:

> Before washing, pour or scrape fat and sauces (like gravy), from roasting trays, pans and plates into a heat resistant container, when cool put in the bin
*That'll be Dad's thinking!

> Small amounts of grease left in pans or on plates can be wiped away with kitchen roll and thrown into the bin.

> Use a sink strainer to capture food scraps and put them in the bin.

> For larger quantities of oils, contact your local council who’ll let you know how to dispose of them and where your local recycling centre is.

You can find much more information, advice and tips by visiting their website here.

To help raise awareness of the fat-berg crisis, because it is crisis - the North West pours 2.9 MILLION STONE of fat down our plugholes every year - we've got a Lakeland Fat Trapper to give away. A step up from the milk bottle method, this will look inconspicuous and slick in your kitchen whilst serving a real purpose.

Simply follow the Rafflecopter instructions below for your chance to win. UK only,

Good luck!

Wow Toys and a Child's Development: Review & Win

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to work with Wow Toys and review Dudley the Dump Truck. Given Finley’s developmental delay I find it difficult to source toys that he is willing to play with if it doesn't involve flicking. Wow Toys however, are aimed at aiding development such as fine motor skills. Count us in then!

Firstly, it’s a large box and would make for an impressive gift when wrapped. I wasn't expecting it to be so large. All the better for little fingers to get to grips with I suppose!

Inside the box is Dudley Dump Truck (aka Dudders) complete with driver/worker, barrels and traffic cones. As Finley progresses I do hope that this will encourage imaginative role play as well because there’s no one specific place for these pieces to be.

You can pop the driver behind his windscreen, cones on the ground and barrels in the back of the truck. Or have the driver acting as a worker on the ground with Dudders bringing the cones.  For the moment Finley seems to enjoy the driver behind the windscreen and although he can't sit him in place just yet, he loves to open and close the window which is helping his finger/thumb pincing and opening actions.

There's a dial on the side of Dudders that empties his truck, with the contents crashing out. Finley loves this and knows to pull my fingers to the dial when he wants it to happen which is an amazing achievement for him. This means he understands how it works so he should be able to have a go himself sooner rather than later!

As Dudley is a friction powered truck, if you roll him forwards and lift him off the ground and repeat this, the wheels build speed enough to let go for him to whizz forward by himself. Sounds pretty realistic too... "vroom!" HINT: Don't try this on a table, like we did (oops!), he really does build some speed and distance!!

Currently at Amazon for £19.99, I have to say that from my experience these past few weeks, it's worth every penny. There's no need to constantly replace batteries because they’re not required, it’s durable, developmentally educational, fun and encourages imaginative play. It will take Finley through many a year of play, of that I’m sure.

Once he's cracked his motor skills he can start all over again with this toy on another level. I highly recommend Dudley Dump Truck for any child regardless of age. Wow Toys suggested 18m to 3 years and although Finley is 2 he has a developmental age of 6-10m and we have found this to be an exciting addition to Finley’s day, reaping the benefits gained form having this already.

Wow Toys have been kind enough to offer up one of these to you guys as a thank you for checking out the review, just follow the rules in the Rafflecopter widget below to enter.

Remember: Enter as many ways as you like but the more ways you do choose to enter, the better chance you have of winning this brilliant prize. Best of luck xx

Win 1 of 10 Family Day's Out (worth up to £500 each)

It's been a whole week since Easter and I am so fed up of the sight of half eaten eggs wrapped back up in their foil and bunnies with no ears!

It's time to make the most of the spring sunshine and make memories outside - stepping awaaaay from the chocolate!!

That's exactly what we did the other day, took a family stroll along our beautiful New Brighton prom in Wirral. I've written before about how lucky we are to live in Wallasey, just over the Mersey from Liverpool, if you want go and have a read.
Taking pictures of Carson and Finley together is so hard but I was incredibly fortunate to capture a natural shot of Carson putting his warm around his brother in such a proud and loving manner. I just love the result.

Brantano currently have an Easter Competition running (don't worry I know that Easter is over but it doesn't end until 10th April) where you can WIN a family day out up to the value of £500. To make things even more exciting, There are TEN up for grabs so to enter simply click here and input your details, then sit back and keep those fingers crossed tightly.

I'm hoping we get to have some more family days out this year, be it a small and local walk like this again or a zoo adventure miles away, taking several trains to get there! Either way, any time together is good time together as far as I'm concerned.

Where, or what, would your ideal family day out be?

Travelling this Christmas? Win with Milton.

If you're travelling to see friends or family this Christmas, it's a tough job knowing what to take with you as it is. Add a baby to the mix and your head is likely to explode even thinking about where to start!

Top of the list of priorities is something to sterilise your baby's bottles and dummies with. The last thing you want is a poorly baby thanks to lack of sterilising equipment whilst away from home.

I reviewed the Milton Solo Travel Steriliser and the Portable Soother Steriliser back in April and I still continue to use them both every single day - even just at home.
The Solo is an all-round handy little product, you can use it in the microwave (ready to use bottles in just 2 minutes) or as a cold water steriliser (sterile bottles after just 15 minutes). I use all different shapes, sizes and brands of bottles in this unit and never had a problem with it fitting, so you needn't worry about compatibility either. Don't just think bottles either - think, teething rings, plastic toys, all things easily dropped on the floor.
Retailing at £10.95, it is truly imperative to my bottle making routine - you can see how, here. and it's one of the best baby products I own.

I've voted for the Milton Solo in this years'
Mumii UK 'Best Baby & Toddler Gear Awards'
(Definitely worth a minute of your time to vote, they deserve it.)

The Mini is a handy decorative ball that fastens on to the buggy/car seat/change bag via the velcro loop handle. It sterilises dummies in just 15 minutes and it can be used for up to 24 hours per tablet. Retailing at £7.97 with free delivery - it's a parent's dream.
I wouldn't be without it attached to my pram, and it looks super cute too!

To celebrate the Christmas travelling season creeping up on us, Milton has teamed up with us to offer one of you a cracking prize:

The ultimate Sterilising Travel Kit, complete with everything you need when you're travelling with a little one including the Milton Mini and Milton Solo as talked about above, Sterilising Tablets, Mini Sterilising Tablets, Milton Surface Wipes and Milton Antibacterial Hand Gel.

Enter via the Rafflecopter widget below, entries close on Tuesday 4th November at 11.59pm. All entries will be checked and verified, any incomplete entries will be removed. Winner will be emailed within 5 days of the competition close date. Winner agrees to their details being passed onto Milton for fulfilment of their prize.

GOOD LUCK!

WIN: Live, Love & Create!

You know when your littl'un draws a picture that's just too cute to stick in that ever-growing file of tatty and scrappy keepsakes. My cupboards are bursting with things like this, I can't bear to just chuck 'em away. The question begs though, what do I do with it, other than add it to an already heaving fridge door?

I believe I've found the answer, and it's unlike anything I've ever seen before... Have a carbon copy of those pictures painted on to a tile. Yes, a tile! A glossy, classy finish to that scrap paper doodling, thanks to Live, Love & Create

Simply scan and email, or post, your 20x20cm, line drawing to Live, Love & Create where they'll begin to get to work. Each line drawing is an exact carbon copy of your child’s original art work and is hand painted using black ceramic paint on a 20cm by 20cm ceramic tile. Once completed, the tile is then glazed and fired in their kiln before being carefully wrapped ready for collection or posted out to you.

Once you've received your completed ceramic tile there are lots of ways you can display your special keepsake. Tiles can be wall mounted using adhesive pads, displayed on a stand, used as a stand or trivet, box framed or incorporated into a tiled wall or mural.

Not only is this the answer for you, as a parent with bulging cupboards of paper, but what a wonderful gift idea? Mother's day, Christmas, Birthday, Easter - your occasion of choice!

Retailing at just £26, with free delivery, this has to be one of the most thoughtful gift ideas I've come across this year and it doesn't even break the bank.

Live, Love & Create have offered a 20x20cm tile to one of you lucky readers. To say I'm jealous much is an understatement, but I will wish you good luck nevertheless ;-) Here's the rules...

Tiffany Rose: Not Just For Bumps! #WIN

You may remember, I was lucky enough to choose and review a Tiffany Rose dress of my choice when I was feeling pretty down on how my bump was hard to style. I'd never felt more glam, despite that 'ready to burst' inevitability. Check out the original review here before reading on.

You're probably wondering why I'm still buzzing about their beautiful range of dresses, given that I've not been pregnant for nearly 5 months now. Well, as my husband predicted in my first review, you really don't need to have a bump for these dresses to look incredible. The fact that they are 'no fuss' in terms of zips/buttons etc, mean they can comfortably mould to your shape, without exposing any unwanted lumps/bumps due to the high quality modesty lining.

Check this picture out below, the Eden Gown in Arabian Nights (RRP £169) both with and without a bump.

I adore my gown and I'm waiting for an occasion to wear it again. (What can I say, it's too good for the grocery shopping) I have a very important meal to attend towards the end of October so I'll wear it then. I'm going to feel and look just as good as I did at 35 weeks pregnant... Only this time, without the waddle and the ability to strut my stuff!

The New Arrivals are in at Tiffany Rose and I have been super lucky enough to offer one of my readers a prize. Not just any old prize, oh no.... One winner can choose a dress of their choice to the value of £180. Yep! One of you lovelies can get your hands on one of these brilliant gowns. All you need to do is complete the following via the Rafflecopter widget below:

Visit Tiffany Rose and comment on this post with the link/title of the dress you wish to receive should you be the luck winner.
Please also tell me why you have chosen that dress.
THIS ENTRY IS MANDATORY.

Amelia Dress (£169)
My fave from the new arrivals would probably be this beautiful Amelia Lace Dress, in black. A timeless classic for any event. Just gutted I can't enter this giveaway myself now!

Extra entries can be gained for the following:
1. Like Tiffany Rose via Facebook
2. Follow Tiffany Rose on Twitter
3. Like Coming from Carson's Mummy on Facebook
4. Follow me on Twitter
5. Comment on the original review with your thoughts on the Eden Gown
6. Tweet about the giveaway
7. Share the giveaway
8. Follow my blog for more news, reviews and general excitement.
9. Follow Tiffany Rose on Pinterest
10. Follow me on Pinterest

Winner's details will be passed on to Tiffany Rose in order for the prize to be fulfilled. Giveaway closes at 11.59pm Friday 24th October. Any incomplete entries will not be counted. THIS IS OPEN WORLDWIDE!

Good luck!

Elevease Shower Step *Review and Giveaway*

Being pregnant creates all kinds of havoc with the shaving of your legs or painting your toenails doesn't it! I remember being in the throws of labour, feet in stirrups, looking at my legs thinking "the shame!". In the harsh strip lighting of the hospital, my legs looked like a newborn animal - fuzzy, downy... just monstrously hairy!! I guess out of sight, out of mind. But the moment I realised how much they needed doing, is the moment I wished I'd tried harder to manoeuvre around that bump.

Elevease shower step is a handy item designed to help women, not only in my predicament, but for anyone who struggles to bend or reach down to their legs and feet whilst in the shower. Basically, It does what it says on the box.

carsonsmummy, elevease shower step review, shave legs pregnant

I was kindly sent one to give you all my thoughts, so here goes...

Firstly, the packaging.  Very 1990's. If I had the decision on whether to buy one as a gift for someone based purely on packaging alone - it doesn't stand out from the crowd unfortunately.

That said, the concept is so viable that you should look past the packaging.

Contents are the step itself (you can choose from white and chrome, I opted for white to match my tiles!) and a tube of adhesive.

Application is surprisingly simple. Apply the adhesive to the step and hold in desired place for 3 minutes. Then allow it to dry securely for a further 24hours, just to create a strong bond. You can't allow anyone in the home to take a shower or steamy bath in this period of time else it could compromise it's staying power.

I was nervous to put my weight on the step at first but had nothing to worry about! It made shaving my legs super easy even though my bump is no longer there. I'm still overcomig SPD so bending and twisting is very much a problem for me.

It just goes to show that anyone can make use of this product, male or female, pregnant or not. Perhaps you've had a c-section or any other operation recently, maybe you have a bad back or have pulled your shoulder and can't stretch. Or perhaps your shower cubicle is short on space which makes bending difficult.

It's not just for leg shaving either, leg and foot care in general. With summer coming too, painted toenails or a bit of fake tan on your pins are a simple task with Elevease Shower Step.

Because I can't snap myself whilst in position (trust me, I tried!) Checkout Elevease's YouTube video:

Priced at just €16.99 for the white or €23.99 for the chrome I think it's uses provide real value for money. It also looks seamless in your bathroom, which is just as important!

Elevease.com have kindly offered  20% discount using coupon code CARSON so why not grab one whilst you can?

There is also the chance for one of my readers to win an Elevease Shower Step of your very own plus a beauty hamper worth €50 and this is for my readers worldwide! Just complete the rafflecopter widget below and you're in to win!

1. This is open WORLDWIDE!

4. Competition closes at 11.59pm 5th July 2014.

Storing Photos & Keepsakes: Review & Win with Baby B.

Although everything tends to be stored digitally these days, I am a great believer of the traditional photo album to mark and remember the special occasions in life. Given baby Finley's arrival, this was one such occasion that warranted one!

With impeccable timing, I was approached by a company called Busy B who are introducing their new baby range, aptly called Baby B. I was offered the opportunity to choose an item from this range to review on my blog so I ran off to take a peek HERE.

My immediate reaction was yay! There was a beautiful Photo Album and Keepsake Box in blue stating First Photo Album. The perfect item for me right now!

It retails at £19.99** which is probably a bit more than I would pay for a photo album myself but, OK, I would pay that if it was for a gift for someone else.
Funny how we do that isn't it? Shell out for others but not ourselves!!
**EDIT: Currently on special offer at £9.99^

The album arrived and I must admit that on first glance I thought it looked no different than one you could buy from a highstreet card shop, say Clintons or something. A glossy blue and white cardboard box with an album inside, wrapped in celophane.

However, when I opened it you could feel the difference in quality and this is where your money really shows in my opinion.

A sturdy, quality keepsake box with a matte finish. Not flimsy at all, I would trust this box to protect my album and/or hold precious dainty things like baby's first curl and hospital tag etc. extremely well.

The front cover of the album has a plastic window featuring the rabbit design from the keepsake box and the words "First Photo Album". You can insert your own photograph in here, but personally I love the design so much that I would leave it as is.

The 24 acid-free page photo album can hold up to 96 photo's of your cherub and are covered with high quality clear sheets to prevent damage to your photographed memories.

My Summary
This product makes for a lovely gift and the quality gives it it's worth.
I would suggest just one thing though if buying as a gift for someone - remove the cellophane, pop the lid on the box and wrap the box in giftwrap or add ribbon and a bow. It's so much more impressive this way and when you open the box, you're further pleasantly surprised by the matching photo album.
It's a big thumbs up from me!

I'll cherish this album and keepsake box, just as I continue to do with Carson's from when he was newborn.

DISCLAIMER: I was sent this item free of charge. All opinions are my own, open and honest - as always.
I was not paid for this post.
^Product prices mentioned in this post were correct at time of publishing.
