Open Letter: Dear Dog Owners...

Let me set the scene... it's a sunny Thursday morning, the day before the kids break up for Easter and we're off to school at 8.40am.

Me: "Carson, mind the poo"
Carson: "Why do you always say that?"

Great point, son. Why the hell do I? I shouldn't have to! I live a 3-5 minute walk away from the school yet we dodge sh*t more than we blink.

Dear Dog Owners,

The majority of you are entirely responsible for your actions, care for your dog in the right manner and are a credit to pet owners in general. Hoorah! However, I must direct this toward the non-responsible owners....

It is utterly horrendous how some of you think it's perfectly OK to leave your animals faeces, steaming away, on the pavement. And I don't just mean near a school, I mean anywhere.

dog shit, dog fouling sign, dog owners be responsibleI note that blind corners are right up their in the hilarity of it all. You know the ones, you've already turned and stepped before you saw what was coming. Oh you scamps! You got us!

You also succeed in smearing your tag animal's crap over a larger area, even further down the road, as children or prams etc try to walk/wheel it off, leaving a smushy trail behind them for others to enjoy.

If your animal walked on broken glass, you'd be fuming at the irresponsible creatures that had left the glass there - guaranteed!

I witnessed a toddler walking in reigns with his Nan the other day, missed his footing and clambered forward to the ground in typical toddler fashion. His hands landed about half a foot away from a dollop of shit.

If the poor mite had have landed in it, toddlers don't know any better than to lick their hands or play with the gooey fascination they've just discovered.
You, however, Mr & Mrs Irresponsible... well you do know better. CLEAR IT UP.

When this baby is born, I will constantly have nappy bags on me and I cannot wait!!

When I catch one of you minger's letting your dog defecate on the pavement and go to walk off without a care in the world, I will make a holy show of you.

I will personally ensure that everyone around knows exactly what you're up to and, being the generous soul I am, I will supply you with a bag to pick it up yourself. Can't say fairer than that.

You knock me sick...

Sincerely.

Things will never change and councils cannot afford to have an army of shit searchers on patrol (oh we dream ha!) But I needed to get this rant off my chest. I am FUMING this morning lol!

  1. Love your post!
I am a dog owner and I hate when others do not clean after their dogs.
It is not so hard to bend over and pick the poop up.
You can use nappy bags which cost 35p for 300 of them and even my giant Bunk poo fits in it so no excuses!
I wish someone made a huge campaign reminding people to clean up or put of huge penalty in effect.
I am with you 100% dog owners should always clean after their pets... always!

  2. Well bloody said! It is disgusting and I always carry nappy bags with a special poopy scoops device when walking my puppy because quite frankly it takes two minutes to clear up , I would love to see you the next time you catch someone, would be funny.

    Great post

  3. It's definitely a cultural thing. While I don't necessarily think it's the council/government's job to clean up dog poo, I do hate it when people don't clean up after their dogs, and I'm a dog owner. Here (USA) we buy little rolls of doggie bags (just like nappy bags). They're hanging off all the shelves where the dog food is sold, they have special little bags you can put them in AND they clip onto your retractable dog leash. It makes it inexcusable not to have a bag handy and even more so if you don't use it. We also have receptacles in the streets and parks with poop bags in them if you've forgotten yours.

  4. Oh well said, it's the same around here, the walk to school is like a minefield of poo! I have to say, the only person to walk it in the house so far is the OH, men eh!

  5. Excellent! I have been toying with idea of doing a post about this too but this is brilliant it is disgusting on our school run too xx

  6. The only thing I could add to your excellent rant is that everything you say about the walk to school can be true of sports fields in public parks. It really is nauseating. I would like parks to have segregated areas for dog walkers

  7. Its horrible - and I do have to say that I am glad my dog is a sh*thouse !) and even though he is the size of a small horse, he is terrified of his own shadow!! (the only dog that I know who runs AWAY from the postman I managed to catch a rather large bluebottle earlier tonight, unsuspectingly with a can of fly spray, now not that I am a sadist but it had bugged me for about an hour so I let it writhe around the floor buzzing its little (big) wings off while it slowly died - Dusty however cowered in a corner whimpering and shuffling himself as far back into the wall as he could!!! (imagine him outside....with people, and animals and cars!! He would faint!) So because of this the only poop I have to scoop is in the privacy of my own back garden (only if its not raining - he is also scared off the rain!!)

  9. Ash says - As a dog I HATE it when I see doggy doo doo on the floor. My mum and dad are always responsible about picking it up and Lucas always makes sure that he is on the lookout. Great post but not all dog owners are idiots!!
The Mum found your blog on #sharewithme and she thinks it great xx

hi i agree i feel that as a dog hasnt got thumbs it isnt capable of picking up after itself so the owner should do the dog poo pick up x

  11. I completely agree with everything you said, its horrible trying to dodge the poo when we walk to the park. It takes two minutes to scoop the poop so do it or dont have a dog, its that simple.

  12. I hate it when it's not cleared up. Who are these people??? I also hate it when they DO clear it up, then hang the bag on the nearest tree. ARGHHHH!
